This afternoon we received an e-mail that there had been a staus change in our Nexus GOES account, and as expected, Portia has been provisionally approved for her Nexus card. Not much one can get up to in the time between birth and 2 days shy your one month birthday that could make you inadmissable to the USA!
Now Portia just needs her passport prior to her Nexus appointment, and she will be all set to become a little world traveller.
Incidentally, NEXUS cards are free for infants – I forget till what ages… if you regularly cross the border by road between Canada and the USA, joining the NEXUS trusted traveller program is probably the best $50 you can spend as an adult, and with it being free for infants, that just has to be a deal. I am wondering how they would do an iris scan for her to use Nexus AIR.
By the way, remember that even if you are a permanent resident of either the USA or Canada, you can join the Nexus trusted traveller program (note it does not absolve you from any Visa requirements to enter the USA if you are a Canadian Permanent Resident). This is a good thing, as you cannot get an enhanced drivers licence as a non-citizen, and you cannot use the Nexus priority lanes, even if you had an EDL. Personally I wonder what the point of an EDL is: it offers no real advantage to a passport – other than being card sized?
